In Almost, Maine, almost anything can happen – and does. But there’s nothing halfway or almost about this hilarious, romantic comedy Plymouth Community Theatre will perform beginning this Friday and continuing for two consecutive weekends.
“It’s not about Down East Maine jokes,” PCT President Bob Hollis said. “It’s a mythical town in Maine called Almost. Some of the scenes are really outside the box – not your standard dialogue and comedy. It’s very interesting and very funny, quick and whacky.”
The curtain goes up for the Friday and Saturday show at 8 p.m. Feb. 26 and 27 and March 5 and 6., with Sunday matinees set for 3 p.m. Feb. 28 and March 7, all at the Plymouth Center for the Arts at 11 North St. Tickets are $18 for reserved seating and $15 for general admission for the Friday and Saturday shows and $15/$12 for Sunday matinees.
Author John Cariani’s description of his show is difficult to top.
“On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend – almost – in this delightful midwinter night’s dream,” Cariani writes.
It’s a new comedy overflowing with laugh-a-minute parleys, Hollis said.
PCT’s board worked with Director Theresa Chiasson to select this off-the-wall take on matters of the heart. Chiasson, the president of Duxbury’s Bay Players, just directed Plaza Suite and Clue to rave reviews. Abington resident Melissa Peters, the production’s stage manager, was recently nominated for an Eastern Massachusetts Association of Community Theatres award for Best Stage Management for her work on Massassoit Community College’s production of UrineTown – The Musical.
The cast features Emily Rose Barry of Plymouth, Elizabeth Coster of Plympton, Duxbury’s Lisa Caron Driscoll and Phil Markella, Scott Louthan of Grafton, Garrett Olson of Carver and Quincy resident Stephen Sacchetti. All of the actors will perform multiple roles.
Advance tickets are available at the Plymouth Center for the Arts and at the Hollis Insurance Agency at 1 Village Green North at The Pinehills. Advance tickets are also available through TheaterMania by calling 866-811-4111 or online at www.theatermania.com.
