Some times of the year are just busier than others. Perhaps you’ve been looking at the Plymouth Center for the Arts class list wistfully, wishing you had that much time on your hands – enough time to take a class. Maybe you don’t have time to make a weekly commitment right now – whether it’s the kids or school or a demanding job. Life happens, even to the best of us. But don’t despair, in addition to all the weekly classes, the Center also offers one-day adults workshops. This could be your chance to try something new, while giving yourself a precious gift – time for yourself.
Would you like to try painting? With Your Unique Style, noted artist Elizabeth Geissler will guide you on a tour of self-discovery within your own art. Working in whatever medium pleases you, Elizabeth will lead an exploration of the student’s artistic goals and intentions while working toward enhancing one’s own style and process. Personal expression will be the focus as you learn new techniques to add to your repertoire. Elizabeth’s workshop will be offered Saturdays, May 15 and 22, from 1 to 5 p.m.
When you drive past the harbor do you get a little itch to pull over and pull out the paint? Instructor artist Katherine Smit leads Plein Air Workshops on Plymouth Waterfront where you will have the opportunity to do just that (Plein Air means “in the open air” in French). After a long winter cooped up inside, get out of the house and take your act on the road. Students will learn how to strengthen their drawing skills and color values in order to produce a successful landscape painting. What better way to spend a sunny spring Saturday – learning outside with some of the best subject matter around, our beloved Plymouth and her scenic harbor? Katherine offers this workshop Saturdays, May 15 and June 5, from 9 a.m. to noon.
There will also be two one-day workshops with instructor Irina Kitaeva, in which the focus will be is on creating beaded jewelry that’s as much fun to make as it is beautiful to wear. Students of the first workshop, scheduled for Saturday, May 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will incorporate seed beads, collage work and found objects into a piece of wearable art. The second, set for Saturday, June 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will focus on creating a beaded “face” pendent or pin – by incorporating a clay “face” with a coral beading technique. Different techniques will be discussed and explored using polymer clay and beading stitches.
