Plymouth-based husband-and-wife Celtic duo Stephen and Susan Lindsay return to the Church of the Pilgrimage in Town Square at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, for their fourth year appearing in the annual summer concert series. The program will include a mix of songs old and new, alongside upbeat traditional instrumental jigs and reels played on Irish concert flute, whistle and saxophone, accompanied this year by two special guests: singer/guitarist Gabo Roberts, directly from Dublin, Ireland, and Sean Farias on acoustic upright bass.

The Lindsays’ music is heavily inspired by the Irish tradition but colored by many other influences, including rock, jazz and folk. Susan (Gedutis) Lindsay is the author of See You at the Hall: Boston’s Golden Era of Irish Music and Dance. She teaches in the music department at Bridgewater State College and is a regular contributor on Irish music to the Boston Irish Reporter newspaper. She completed her Master of Music in Ethnomusicology at Tufts University in Boston and earned a Bachelor of Arts in music from Hampshire College in Amherst.

Stephen Lindsay’s musical style was born in Irish ballad sessions in and around Dublin’s northside, where traditional Irish ballads sat comfortably alongside newer songs from Christy Moore, Neil Young, or Bob Marley. Together with his band, Celtic Symphony, he founded a longtime singing session at the Lighthouse Bar in Howth, a historic fishing village in northern Dublin that is also home to Barney McKenna, banjo player from the famous ballad band the Dubliners.

Stephen and Susan have been playing in Irish establishments, as well as at weddings and special events, in and around Boston and Cape Cod for more than 10 years. Their debut CD, Live at Church of the Pilgrimage, was recorded at their 2008 Music for a Summer Evening concert.

The Church of the Pilgrimage offers free public concerts starting at 8 p.m. each Tuesdays through Aug. 24.

Aug. 17, Love Divine, a gospel vocal group from the Taunton area, will be featured.
