It took 42 years, but the Plymouth Guild for the Arts’ Annual Juried Art Show has come home. For the first time it will take place in the Guild’s new permanent home, the Plymouth Center for the Arts at 11 North St. in downtown Plymouth. The Annual Juried Art Show, known formerly and informally as the “Tent Show,” most recently was held on the Training Green just south of downtown Plymouth.
“The Plymouth Guild now has this beautiful home,” Peggy Page, chairman of the Annual Show, said. “We want to share this space with the community and feel the best way to do this is to hold our biggest art event of the year here.”
In addition to the new location, there are other new features for the 42nd Annual Juried Art Show:
· The show will run for two weeks, Sept. 12-27.
· Show hours have been extended: Mondays through Saturdays the show will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays the show is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
· The Fourth Annual Art Stroll will take place on one day, Saturday, Sept. 12, with a rain date of Sunday, Sept. 13.
· The Art Stroll will be concentrated in a three-block area of downtown within walking distance of the Center for the Arts.
As always, the show will consist of hundreds of original paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, sculptures, and fine crafts from artists from Plymouth and the surrounding towns, as well as from throughout New England. Look for music, poetry and Art in Bloom to enliven the galleries during your visit.
The opening night gala benefit and awards presentation will take place at the Plymouth Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11. Ribbons and $3,000 in awards will be presented in more than a dozen categories. For reservations to the Gala, call the Plymouth Center at 508-746-7222 or go to Plymouthguild.org.
Parking is available on the street as well as in two nearby municipal parking lots, one on North Street across from the Center’s front door and one on Middle Street.
The Plymouth Guild is looking forward to welcoming hundreds of artists and thousands of visitors to its new, historic home on North Street.
Don’t forget to help select the “Popular Prize” award by voting for your favorite work of art!
Volunteer opportunities
An all-volunteer organization, the Plymouth Guild can use a few good people to help either during the Annual Show or on an ongoing basis. Contact Gail Oberst at the Center, 508-746-7222 to learn more about volunteering. All you need is an interest in art and an enjoyment of people.
